Baby Showers!
Baby showers can be anything you want them to be these days. My older sister very kindly offered to travel to Mexico City from Louisiana to throw us a shower. She is a party pro, who effortlessly preps and serves or arranges food! Unlike myself–I love to entertain, but I am never actually ready when the first guests arrive. I am always running back and forth to the kitchen like a spaz! Since she was coming to help, I felt excited to focus on party decorations. My fave!
Ever since we found out I was pregnant, we decided to not find out the sex ahead of time and always referred to our growing baby as âBaby Rainbow Vancâ. So, it was obviously going to be a rainbow affair when we had our shower. I wanted a shower that was happy, bright, and colorful, filled with rainbows, flowers, good friends, fun snacks, and good wine! Also, I did not want games, but I decided to put out all the leftover flowers and materials for optional flower-crown making.
I have to mention that originally, I didnât want to have a baby shower. It seemed like a lot of work and like we were asking for people to buy us gifts. Which is the nature of a shower, after all! Thank goodness for my sisterâs insistence that we should have a shower and that she really wanted to help make that happen.
You end up receiving a lot of things that are very useful when the little babe arrives in addition to some really fun or beautiful gifts. My mommy friends Amanda and Shannon helped me put the registry together since I had no idea what I was going to need. I used myregistry.com because you can add anything that is for sale online and not be tied to one store. I am very grateful for their advice and so thankful we had a shower after all.
And we didnât have just one–we had two! Double rainbow đđshower family over here! My last big job before the baby arrived was in NYC, and our New York friends threw us a beautiful rainbow themed shower in Battery Park while we were in town. Little Baby Rainbow Vanc is a very spoiled and beloved babe!
Our shower developed into a co-ed explosion of color and love that was perfect for the happy baby that was about to join us. It turned out that preparing for the shower was almost as fun as the shower itself. I am fortunate to have good friends who helped me create tons of paper flowers to make my rainbow-of-flowers dream come true.
The shower was beautiful, but it was truly the beautiful friendships and the people at our shower that made it even more special. Our local friends in Mexico City have become like family to us, and being with them at our shower made it feel like a big family party. In addition, a small crew of awesome friends flew in from San Francisco, as well as my sister from Louisiana, and my father-in-law from Chicago. I sent that invite out far and wide, but I didnât expect to have out-of-town party guests other than my sister. Having friends show up like that really made my big mushy, pregnant, hormonal heart swell!
